A new charity auction hosted on eBay aims to raise money for U.S. troops while also sending a prominent liberal politician a powerful message. The winning bidder gets the right to be caricatured in an upcoming children's book as the fictional hero that throws a look-alike of Hillary Clinton into jail.
Hillary Clunkton, a fictional pantsuit-clad villain with an uncanny resemblance to Clinton, is a fixture in the popular children's books ?Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed? (Kids Ahead; hardcover; ISBN 0976726904) and ?Help! Mom! Hollywood's in My Hamper? (Kids Ahead; hardcover: $ 15.95; ISBN 0976726912). But the clock is ticking on Clunkton's villainy, as author Katharine DeBrecht has announced that the thieving cartoon congresswoman from Liberaland will get her comeuppance in an upcoming ?Help! Mom!? book. And the hero who apprehends the tax-and-spend liberal in the kid's book will be the real-life winner of the charity auction that is currently open for bids on eBay.
All proceeds from the eBay auction will go to benefit Operation Gratitude, a charity that sends care packages to U.S. troops stationed overseas.
?Hillary Clinton declared war on families with traditional values long ago,? says DeBrecht, who is a mother of three. ?Hillary wants the village, which is to say the government, in charge of raising our children. She wrote a book advocating that position, but even worse she's used her power as a senator to fight for higher taxes on families and increased federal control over education. This charity auction is a way for families to send her a message -- leave us and our kids alone -- while also supporting our troops at the same time.?
The charity auction is not the first time that Hillary Clinton and DeBrecht have crossed paths. When DeBrecht's first book, ?Liberals Under My Bed? -- which featured Clunkton and a Ted Kennedy doppelganger taxing and regulating a lemonade stand -- hit #1 on Barnes & Noble's website last September, Clinton's press secretary Philippe Reines disparaged it to the media. In addition to Clinton's spokesman, DeBrecht's books have also been denounced by a long list of liberals, including Alan Colmes, Ron Reagan, Andrew Sullivan, and the left-wing blog Daily Kos.
The high bidder of the charity auction will be caricatured by Reuben Award-winning artist Jim Hummel and written into DeBrecht's upcoming illustrated children?s book -- which will be published by Kids Ahead and sold in bookstores nationwide in late 2006 -- as the hero who finally gives Hillary Clunkton what she deserves for being bossy and constantly trying to tell families what to do.
?I can't publicly reveal what the cause of Congresswoman Hillary Clunkton's downfall will be,? says DeBrecht. ?Maybe she'll be sent to detention for demanding that kids hand over their lunch money as campaign donations. Or perhaps she'll be sent up the river for trying to snatch gifts from Santa's sleigh for an affirmative action program for naughty kids. You just never know what a liberal like Clunkton is going to do next!?
The charity auction -- which is titled ?Star in a Kid?s Book & Send Hillary to Jail? -- will be accepting bids on eBay until April 6. The winning bidder, who will be immortalized as a sure-to-be-legendary children's hero, will also receive an autographed copy of the illustration depicting him or her apprehending Hillary.
